Installing Python 3 on Linux

We will take a look at how to install Python 3 on a Linux machine. This is not specific to a Linux Distribution as it should apply to all. If you get stuck or require some help please post a message on the comments below or drop me a a message directly.

Open a new terminal and follow the below commands:

$ sudo apt-get install python3
$ sudo apt-get update
  • On Red Hat and derivatives, use yum:
$ sudo yum install python
  • On SUSE and derivatives, use zypper:
$ sudo zypper install python3

To check if Python is now installed type the following:

$ python --version

You should now see something like this:

$ python -version
Python 3.6.2
